This service enables our pharmacists to supply advice, information and treatment free of charge (funded by the NHS) if you are registered with a Flintshire GP and are suffering from one of the minor health conditions listed below:

  • Diarrhoea

Our pharmacy offers a confidential and professional Emergency Contraception service. Our qualified pharmacists are on hand to offer guidance, answer any questions you may have, and provide emergency contraception when needed. This service is available free of charge through the NHS if you meet the eligibility criteria, ensuring that you receive the care and support you require at the time you need it most. Whether you have concerns or need immediate assistance, our team is here to help with discretion and care.

Stay protected during flu season with a free NHS flu vaccination provided by our pharmacy. Pharmacist Prescriber Service

The pharmacist prescribing service is an NHS funded service that allows the pharmacist to prescribe certain medication for acute conditions without the need for a GP consultation. The following are some examples of acute conditions that are covered by the service:

  • Cough (acute)/Chest infection – for ages 12 years and over
  • Ear infections – for ages 6 years and over
  • Shingles – for ages 16 and over
  • Impetigo – for ages 2 and over
  • Skin infection/reactions – for ages 2 and over
  • Sinusitis – for ages 12 and over
  • Sore throat – for ages 6 and over
  • Urine infection – for women aged 16 and over

Consultations can take up to 20 minutes, an appointment is required as only some pharmacists are qualified to provide the service. 

If the pharmacist suspects a more serious condition or cannot diagnose your condition then you may be referred to your GP, A&E or other healthcare professional.

Common Ailments Service

This NHS funded service enables consultation with a pharmacist to provide advice and treatment (if required) for a range of common ailments without having to make a GP appointment. The service can be accessed by anyone who lives in Wales with a Welsh GP. 

The following ailments and illnesses are covered as part of the service: 

  • Acne
  • Athlete’s foot
  • Back pain (acute)
  • Chicken pox
  • Cold sores
  • Colic
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Constipation
  • Dermatitis
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dry eyes
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Hay fever
  • Indigestion
  • In-gowning toenail
  • Intertrigo
  • Mouth ulcer
  • Nappy rash
  • Oral thrush
  • Ringworm
  • Scabies
  • Teething
  • Threadworms
  • Vaginal thrush
  • Verruca

Consultations generally last less than 10 minutes, although you can generally walk in and wait for the pharmacist to become available you may prefer to book an appointment to save waiting. 

The pharmacist may refer you to see your GP or other healthcare professional if deemed necessary.  

Sore Throat Test and Treat Service

This NHS funded service enables consultation with a pharmacist to assess and treat a sore throat. Based on your symptoms the pharmacist may perform a throat swab to determine if the infection is bacterial or viral. Depending on the results of the test the pharmacist may provide treatment with antibiotics, pain relief, or self-care advice. 

The service can be accessed by patients aged 6 and over who live in Wales with a Welsh GP. 

Consultations can take 10-20 minutes particularly if a swab test is performed. It is advisable to book an appointment to guarantee availability. 

If the pharmacist suspects a more serious condition or cannot diagnose your condition then you may be referred to your GP, A&E or other healthcare professional.

Discharge Medicines Review

This is an NHS funded service for helping you with your medicines when you have been discharged from hospital. The pharmacist or pharmacy technician will reconcile the medicines prescribed by the GP with your discharge notes to ensure all the necessary changes have been made and any new items are continued (if applicable). If needed the pharmacist will contact your GP and work to resolve any discrepancies. The pharmacist will then arrange a follow up consultation/telephone call to ensure that you are getting the best use out of your medicines and answer any questions that you may have.

The service can be accessed by anyone who lives in Wales. 

Consultations can take around 10 minutes and the pharmacist will need to see your discharge notes if they have not been sent electronically from the hospital. You can generally walk in and wait for the pharmacist to become available, but you may prefer to book an appointment to save waiting.

Emergency Medicines Supply

This is an NHS funded service for when you have run out of your regular medicines, for example you have forgotten to order or lost your medicines. The pharmacist may be able to supply you with your medicines in an emergency to save a visit to the GP or A&E. 

The service can be accessed by anyone who lives in Wales or those visiting Wales (staying for over 24 hours).

Consultations last less than 10 minutes and the pharmacist will need to access your GP record if you live in Wales or if you live outside Wales you will need to bring evidence such as a repeat slip or show your NHS app to the pharmacist. You can generally walk in and wait for the pharmacist to become available, but you may prefer to book an appointment to save waiting

If the pharmacist cannot supply your medicines either because the medicine is a controlled drug or cannot obtain satisfactory confirmation your request is for a regular medicine then you may be referred to your GP, NHS 111 or A&E.

Flu Vaccination (NHS)

We offer NHS flu vaccinations with our pharmacist or pharmacy technician. Please refer to the NHS Public Health Wales website for latest guidance regarding eligibility. 

The service can be accessed by anyone aged 18 and over and who fulfill the latest NHS eligibility criteria. 

Vaccination takes less than 10 minutes, a record of your vaccination will be sent electronically to your GP practice. You will need to book an appointment to ensure availability.

Flu Vaccination (Private)

We offer private flu vaccinations with our pharmacist or pharmacy technician for those patients who do not qualify for the NHS flu vaccination. 

The service can be accessed by anyone aged 18 and over. If you require an on-site flu vaccination for your organisation then please contact us via telephone or email for more information and a quote.

Vaccination takes less than 10 minutes.

Emergency Contraception

The emergency contraception service is an NHS funded service with a pharmacist or pharmacy technician for the ‘morning after pill’ which can prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or if your regular contraceptive method has failed. 

The pharmacist may also be able to provide short-term (3 month) supply of oral contraception in the form of the progestogen-only pill whilst awaiting a GP appointment for longer term contraception options.

The service can be accessed by patients aged 13 and over. Consultations take around 10-20 minutes depending on the situation and an appointment is required. 

If the pharmacist cannot provide the ‘morning after pill’ or suspects other complications, then you may be referred to your GP or local sexual health services.

Smoking Cessation

This is an NHS funded service with the pharmacist or pharmacy technician for those who want to stop smoking. This consists of a 12-week support programme with the provision of nicotine replacement products. 

This service can be accessed by anyone aged over 13 who smokes and lives in Wales. If you are currently vaping and need assistance in stopping vaping then please contact the NHS Wales ‘Help Me Quit’ service.

Consultations can take around 10 minutes, you will need to provide breath samples at each consultation for carbon monoxide monitoring. You can generally walk in and wait for the pharmacist to become available, but you may prefer to book an appointment to save waiting.
